Barcelona coach Xavi says Real Madrid should’ve walked off in protest over the racist chants against Vini Jr during defeat at Valencia on Sunday.
Indeed, Xavi says the game should’ve been abandoned.
He said today: “In general, unfortunately, there have always been cases of racism. That these things happen in 2023 is unfortunate. I want to condemn. There are no shields here. Valencia is trying to identify these people. We have to eradicate racism once and for all.
“Yes, the games must be stopped. It is the only sport where the insult is accepted. I’m on the bench and they call me the son of such. I don’t see any baker, worker or journalist being insulted.
“It’s time to stop this. It is a message for the president of the League or the Federation. No teacher is insulted or any worker. Go insult a worker and see what happens to you, a brick is going to fall on your head. I don’t have to put up with insults and impudence of all kinds during my working hours.
“I have always thought about it and now that I am the Barça coach and I have more media power, I take the opportunity to say it.
“It doesn’t matter the shirt, Vinicius is a person, he is not a Madrid footballer before he is a person, any footballer must be defended above the colours. Defend him, not Vinicius, the soccer professional, if this serves to have a before and after, all the professionals are here to defend the profession of the soccer player, the coach, the journalist… I don’t understand it, as a person and citizen.”
