Barcelona coach Xavi: I don’t enjoy it here; my work is never valued

Barcelona coach Xavi has taken aim at the LaLiga refereeing today.

Ahead of their clash with Alaves, Xavi insisted Barca have suffered due to the officiating.

He snapped: “I am not the President of the Federation or the President of the Liga. I am surprised that we accept all this. They assault the competition entirely, week after week. A blind man sees it. Cholo Simeone said that we are not stupid. Of course we see it, everyone sees it. But it is the media that you have to say something.

“I already said that I did not like that they conditioned the referees and they do it every week. I don’t like it, we are seeing that the referees are conditioned. The Negreira case has not helped us at all, it is a reality. But you have to compete with that and I share 100% of the president’s words. We cannot deceive the Barcelona player.”

Xavi also discussed his end of season resignation.

“If the objectives are not met, I will have to go. The president says so and it will happen to the next coach. When I arrivec we met the objective, even with options to fight for the League, the second is very good, but in the third we are not meeting expectations. I am no exception. I depend on the results. What the president says is what I said a month and a half ago and that is why I decided to go.”

About what is valued in Spain, Xavi made it clear: “Outside of Spain, they highly value our work. And the football people, the professionals who work, all congratulate us as staff. But in Spain, it is not valued. It is my feeling. I think a very good job has been done and I am still looking forward to doing it by the end of the season. Football people value us very much. Football people, I insist. And outside of Spain, people don’t understand many things.

“I think that the process of being a Barça coach does not pay, it is my perception. You are fighting and it causes wear. Day by day is not enjoyed, I have seen it in many coaches, I have seen them suffer even winning. So the other day I asked for reflection in this regard. In another club, it does make up for being a coach. (Osasuna coach Jogeba) Arrasate told me that he enjoyed Monday through Friday, not me. And this is the big difference.”
