Former Barcelona midfielder Gabri says it was Gerard Pique who sacked him as Andorra coach.
Gabri was shown the door after a run of poor results and he insists it was Barca defender Pique, who is co-owner of Andorra, who made the call.
He says he was first informed of the decision “by the sports management, but then it was also Pique. He had the last word.”
Gabri acknowledged that although “the personal relationship turned out to be ‘fine’, I was professionally disappointed (with Pique).
“I lost those three games and they decided that they had to stop me. They told me that they did not see me capable of reversing the situation to put the team in the playoffs.
“That team had been made in two weeks, it was designed to play in the Tercera and try to fight for promotion to Segunda B.
“So when we saw each other in Segunda B, even the players we signed were told that they had to fight to avoid going down. In the first games it was assumed that Andorra would be at the bottom of the table. But then we were leaders for four weeks and we were the third team in the table that went first most times. They are not bad numbers for a team that had just been promoted and that had not been in that category for 20 years.”
