Mourinho invited to sit on Inter bench during Tottenham Legends match – sources

Gab Marcotti speculates on the type of club Jose Mourinho will manage next if the top tier teams don’t come calling.

Paul Pogba reveals why things went so horribly wrong for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Inter Milan have offered Jose Mourinho a place on the bench during Saturday’s Legends match against Tottenham at the new White Hart Lane stadium, sources have told ESPN FC.

Mourinho managed Inter from 2008 to 2010, leading them to a treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League victories in his final season at San Siro. Speaking in January, he said being linked with a return to the club was a “tremendous honour.”

Inter Legends will face their Spurs counterparts on Saturday in the final test for the new stadium, with the first official match taking place on Wednesday against Crystal Palace.

And, Mourinho, who has been out of work since his sacking by Manchester United in December, has the opportunity help coach an Inter side once again, with ESPN FC sources confirming he has been invited to work as assistant to Francesco Toldo — was part of the treble winning squad, and will manage the Nerazzurri at White Hart Lane.

Mourinho’s representatives have not yet replied to an ESPN FC request for comment.

Inter have had a difficult start to 2019. They were knocked out of the Europa League by Eintracht Frankfurt — following on from their Champions League elimination in December, which has piled the pressure on manager Luciano Spalletti.

Furthermore, their bid to finish in the top four was seriously damaged due to a poor run of form in Serie A. Top scorer Mauro Icardi has not played since he was stripped of the captaincy in February, but did return to training this week

Third-place Inter return to action after the international break with a home match against top four rivals Lazio on Sunday.

As well as the role at Inter, Mourinho had also been linked with taking over at Real Madrid, but that job is no longer available after Los Blancos re-hired Zinedine Zidane.
