Jose Mourinho said that Chelsea star Eden Hazard has both the talent and “personality” to succeed at Real Madrid.
“Does he has the talent to play for Real Madrid? He does. Does he have the personality to put on a ‘super-heavy’ shirt and play in front of the fans at the Bernabau? Yes, he has the personality,” Mourinho said on DAZN Espana while serving as a studio analyst for the Carabao Cup.
The Belgium midfielder has postponed contract talks in order to keep his summer options open, and last month Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri said he should join Madrid at the end of the season if he believes that will make him happy.
Mourinho also expressed his desire to return to managing after being sacked by Manchester United in December, saying he hopes to be back with a club by the summer.
“In this short phase of my life, which I hope is only until June, I’m more concerned about what others would do than what I would do,” the ex-Real Madrid boss said in his role as a commentator.
Chelsea — a club where Mourinho won three Premier League titles — lost the Carabao Cup on penalties to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, intensifying pressure on Sarri’s future at Stamford Bridge. At Real Madrid, Santiago Solari was named the permanent manager after Julen Lopetegui’s ill-fated spell ended earlier in the season.
Last week, Mourinho attended a Lille-Montpellier match and told Portuguese outlet Record about his interest in coaching “one day” in France’s Ligue 1.
Mourinho has won 25 combined trophies throughout his career. As well as his titles with Chelsea, Mourinho led Real Madrid to the Spanish title in 2012, and guided Porto and Inter Milan to Champions League victories in 2004 and 2010 respectively — as well as domestic championships.
He won the EFL Cup, Community Shield and Europa League in his two-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford.
