Kylian Mbappe Makes Ligue 1 History After Scoring A Sensational Volley

Following his match-winning exploits on the weekend, Paris Saint-Germain’s 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning forward Kylian Mbappe has notched up a historic milestone in France’s top flight.

Mbappe, who won the Best Young Player Award en route to helping France end their 20-year wait for the World Cup title in 2018, netted the only goal of the game as PSG ran out 1-0 victors over Saint-Etienne to extend their lead at the summit of the Ligue 1 standing to 12 points.

According to Ligue 1’s official website, the 20-year-old’s match-winning strike saw him become the first French player to score 19 Ligue 1 goals in his first 18 league encounters, a record that has been intact for more than 45 years.

In addition to occupying joint-second spot on the current European Golden Shoe leaderboard, three goals shy of table-topper Lionel Messi, Mbappe is also responsible for scoring the most goals (19) across Europe’s top five leagues among players who have not scored a single penalty in this campaign.

The former AS Monaco attacker has registered 24 goals and 14 assists in the 29 encounters he’s featured in across all competitions for Les Parisiens thus far this season.
