TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

D.C. United midfielder Chris Durkin continues to draw interest in Portugal, with a new Liga NOS suitor reportedly tracking the talented teenage central midfielder.

Noted Lisbon soccer tabloid A Bola reported on Sunday that powerhouse Sporting CP are now tracking Durkin, just as their crosstown rivals Benfica have been for the better part of two years. Previous reports alleged that D.C. received, and rejected, transfer offers of around $1 million from Benfica and German side Hannover 96 in the past.

A 2016 Homegrown signing who turns 19 next month, Durkin has been a subject of international interest dating back some time on account of his central role with the US Under-17 national team leading up to and during their campaign at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India.

He’s currently in the US U-20 player pool, in contention for a spot on Tab Ramos’ squad for that team’s World Cup in Poland this spring, and took part in their training camp in Florida earlier this month. Known for his cultured passing range and tempo-setting abilities, Durkin has played a deep-lying midfield role for most of his United career to date, but is also capable of working as a center back.
