UEFA have no plans to accelerate the introduction of VAR into the Champions League or Europa League either this season or next, Sky Sports News understands.
The news comes after Juventus president, Andrea Agnelli, accused UEFA of referee bias and called for video reviews to be introduced after a stoppage-time Cristiano Ronaldo penalty knocked his team out of the Champions League.
FIFA has announced it will use Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in this summer’s World Cup.
However, UEFA told Sky Sports News on Thursday that extensive trials will continue, but for now their competitions will not feature VAR technology.
In February, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: “Fans see the VAR screen all the time but nobody knows how it works.
“We will not use it in the Champions League next season. For me, it might be a good project but we shouldn’t rush it.”
An International Football Association Board (IFAB) report in January said that the VAR system has been accurate in 98.9 per cent of decisions so far during its two-year worldwide trial.
