TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Minnesota United may not be done bringing players in from Scandinavia, according to a new report from a Swedish newspaper.
The story in Kvallsposten says the Loons are set to offer Swedish giants Malmo $1.2 million for the services of midfielder Fouad Bachirou, who was a standout during the club’s successful Europa League group stage campaign this fall. Minnesota already has three Designated Players on its books after officially announcing the signing of midfielder Jan Gregus from FC Copenhagen last Thursday.
The 28-year-old Bachirou appeared in eight Europa League group-stage matches for Malmo this past fall, helping the club advance out of the group ahead of Besiktas. Should Bachirou head to MLS, he would presumably do so ahead of Malmo’s round-of-32 Europa League tie against English giants Chelsea.
Bachirou came into the pro ranks through the setup of French titans Paris St. Germain, and spent time in the Scottish second tier with Greenock Morton, but Malmo’s first team marks his highest ascent in first team football. Previously, he spent four years with Swedish side Ostersunds, helping the club earn promotion to the top flight and make a Cinderella run to the Europa League themselves, before moving to Malmo last season.
