Atlanta United fans enjoyed a special relationship with Gerardo “Tata” Martino, the head coach who helped build their club from scratch and led them to the 2018 MLS Cup championship before departing as a conquering hero.
He leaves big shoes for his newly-named successor, Frank de Boer, to fill. But the Dutchman did not flinch from that legacy as he laid down an early marker for his tenure in a video greeting to Five Stripes fans in the wake of his appointment on Sunday.
“Just wanted to say that I’m excited to start this new journey with you,” said de Boer. “The stadium, the atmosphere, the culture – can’t wait to be part of it all. Looking forward to bringing more hardware to the club.”
We can’t wait to introduce you in person, Atlanta
