TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Could Marcos Lopez become the latest Peruvian import to MLS?
A report in Peruvian outlet El Bocón claims the 19-year-old left-footed player has drawn interest from an MLS club, though the article does not indicate which one might be looking to line up the Sporting Cristal player, who can play at left back or left wing.
Lopez was a starter for Sporting Cristal, which won their 19th Torneo Descentralizado title last week, featuring at left wing in both legs of the final. He started his professional career with Universidad San Martín de Porres, which also competes in Peru’s top flight and he earned his first international cap in a friendly against Germany in September.
Should Lopez be recruited to join an MLS club, he would follow in the footsteps of other compatriots who have recently made the move: New York City FC defender Alex Callens, Seattle Sounders FC forward Raul Ruidiaz, Vancouver Whitecaps FC forward Yordy Reyna and Orlando City SC midfielder Yoshi Yotun.
