Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has told UOL Esporte that he does not want to leave Anfield, despite recent links with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Fabinho has had to remain patient for opportunities in a Liverpool shirt following his €50 million summer transfer from Monaco.
The Brazil midfielder has made just six starts for the Merseyside club this season, sparking speculation about a return to France.
“I was told there was something in the press, but I never said I’d like to leave Liverpool,” Fabinho said. “I knew I would need to have patience to wait for my moment.
“I’m happy at Liverpool. There is no reason for me to leave.”
Sources told ESPN FC in August of last year that PSG were willing to pay €60 million to sign Fabinho, who was keen on a move to Parc des Princes but Monaco were unwilling to sell him to their Ligue 1 rivals. PSG eventually signed Kylian Mbappe that summer on an initial season-long loan.
Fabinho has struggled to make an impression since signing for Liverpool.
It took until late-October for Jurgen Klopp to hand Fabinho, a defensive midfielder, his first start in the Premier League.
“He didn’t give me a lot of explanations but I talked in training so I wouldn’t be discouraged and to stay focused on my work, without letting my head drop,” Fabinho added. “I knew it was a passing moment.
“I didn’t keep moaning and crying. I tried to work because I knew opportunities would come. Now I just want to increase my number of games.”
