UEFA Europa League Matchday 5

Group C

MATMUT Atlantique, Bordeauxa

FC Girondins de Bordeaux 2 – 0 SK Slavia Praha

Eric Bédouet (Girondins de Bordeaux coach): “It’s a very promising result for our future in the competition but we mustn’t get carried away. It has been a long time since we won and this does us a lot of good. We’re alive in the competition, and as long as we have a chance, we’ll keep fighting with all we have. You never know what can happen. Tonight, we should have been eliminated, but we weren’t. We’ll do all we can to win in Copenhagen [on Matchday 6]. This win will help us prepare well for our league clash with Paris – we’re not expecting any miracles but we’re not going to be lambs to the slaughter either.”

Jindrich Trpisovsky (SK Slavia Praha coach): “Bordeaux deserved to win. They moved better and ran faster. We had some poor stretches and it was during one of those that we conceded the first goal, after which things got much more complicated for us. It was a bad performance from us. We missed a lot of chances and our opponents took advantage. Their youngsters, as well as [Andreas] Cornelius and [Nicolas] De Préville, worked really hard.”

Group K

Strelnice Stadion, Jablonec nad Nisou

 FK Jablonec 97 0 – 1 Stade Rennais FC

Clément Grenier (Stade Rennais FC midfielder): “It was really tough; it was freezing cold and hard to breathe. But we had to secure a chance to play a final against Astana [on Matchday 6] and that’s what we did. Now we have to play it and win. What we achieved tonight came down to mental strength.”

Group H

Frankfurt Stadion, Frankfurt am Main

Eintracht Frankfurt 4 – 0 Olympique de Marseille

Adi Hütter (Eintracht Frankfurt coach):

Rudi Garcia (Olympique de Marseille coach): “We had seven or eight starters missing from our line-up, and on top of that we defended poorly and scored two own-goals. It was a terrible evening and there were some players who lost points tonight. Certainly, it wasn’t an easy task – we were playing against a side who have topped the group with a perfect record – but we still get a really bad mark for our performance.”
