Romelu Lukaku out of Manchester United squad at Bournemouth; Alexis Sanchez starts

The FC crew raise questions about whether Jose Mourinho can be trusted with £100 million to spend on Manchester United reinforcements in January.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has been ruled out of the Premier League clash with Bournemouth because of injury.

The Belgium striker picked up a problem in training at Carrington on Friday and was unable to make the trip to the south coast ahead of the game at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Lukaku was dropped for the 2-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford but his absence is still a blow for manager Jose Mourinho with trips to Juventus and Manchester City to come next week.

In Lukaku’s absence against Bournemouth, Mourinho decided to start Alexis Sanchez with Marcus Rashford dropping to the bench.

Mourinho told BT Sport before the Bournemouth game: “Lukaku yesterday in training, after the press conference — so I was not lying — he felt something that needs to be studied in the next couple of days. “So Lukaku is not coming, and we decided to start with Alexis.”

Sanchez’s recall — his first start in the Premier League for more than a month — was Mourinho’s only change to the team that beat Everton with Juan Mata and Fred both keeping their places.

Phil Jones returned on the bench after missing the six games, despite fellow defender Eric Bailly travelling with the squad.
