StarHub wins rights to screen UEFA Champions League in Singapore

Singaporean Telco provider StarHub has won the rights to screen the UEFA Champions League to its subscribers in the Lion City.

The announcement:

Fresh off the back of its acquisition of the Carabao Cup and English Football League Championship broadcast rights, StarHub has netted a brace with the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and the UEFA Europa League (UEL). With this,football fans can enjoy more football broadcast in high definition at no additional cost.

UCL and UEL matches will be broadcast ‘live’ on the beIN SPORTS HD (StarHub TV Channel 213) with simultaneous matches shown on StarHub’s self-packaged Hub Sports channels. StarHub TV Sports Group subscribers with StarHub TV Go Value-Added Service can also catch the ‘live’ matches on their smart devices at their own convenience. Non-StarHub TV subscribers can also tune in on the ‘live’ sporting action via Go Sports on StarHub Go.

The UCL is Europe’s most prestigious club competition, the group winners and runners-up will progress to the knockout rounds culminating in the final in the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. The UEL is the second top ranking tournament in European club football with the finals held at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Traditionally known as the League Cup, the Carabao Cup is one of the three major honours of the English domestic football season and is open to all 92 clubs participating in the Premier League and the English Football League. The English Football League Championship is the highest division of the English Football League, second only to the Premier League in English football. The 2018/2019 season promises to be an exciting one with the addition of familiar names such as Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers, West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Swansea City to the mix. Match coverage begins on 29 September 2018 with Sheffield Wednesday facing the leaders Leeds United on Hub Sports 3.

In addition to the newly acquired content, customers can catch the pinnacle of Spanish and French football with La Liga and Ligue 1 only on StarHub. StarHub also offers football leagues such as the Bundesliga, A-League, K League and Major League Soccer; as well as other sporting events such as all four tennis Grand Slams, all four golf majors, Formula One, MotoGP, Badminton World Federation, National Rugby League, Tour of Lombardy, ASEAN Basketball League, fight sports and WWE.

Existing StarHub TV subscribers can sign up for the Sports Group at $21.40 per month, with no minimum contract period, to catch the ‘live’ coverage of their favourite sporting events. Non-StarHub TV customers can subscribe to Go Sports at $9.90 per month, with no contract, to enjoy ‘live’ matches streamed direct to their smart devices; StarHub Mobile postpaid customers will also be able to stream these matches on StarHub Go without incurring any local data charges.
