Nacer Chadli is closing in on a £10million move to Monaco
West Brom splashed out £13million to sign the 29-year-old from Tottenham two years ago, making one of the highest paid players at the club.
But relegation from the Premier League last season left the club facing the prospect of having to fork out £40,000-a-week for a player down in the Championship.
Though they believe he is worth more, they have decided to accept the offer from Monaco in order to help get his salary off the wage bill.
Chadli is already in France where he will undergo his medical this afternoon, and is expected to complete his move well before the transfer window closes tomorrow.
Chadli is swapping Championship football with West Brom for the Champions League with Monaco
Chadli played a key role in helping Belgium reach the semi-finals of Russia 2018
The chance to move to the French club was grabbed with both hands by the player, who suddenly faced going from the World Cup to the Championship.
But now he will be swapping second division football for the Champions League with Monaco and the chance to play at the highest level in club football.
The midfielder has not figured in Darren Moore’s side this season after returning later than the rest of the squad for training following an extended holiday after Russia 2018.
The Baggies are hoping to use some of the money to wrap up a deal to sign Blackburn star Bradley Dack before the window closes.
West Brom have seen a £7m bid rejected by Rovers, but are preparing to return with an improved offer and are confident of getting their man.
They would take the midfielder on an initial loan deal which would become permanent when the transfer window re-opens in January.
