Lebogang Mothiba’s Lille managed to secure a 0-0 draw away to AS Monaco on Saturday evening.

Mothiba was handed a second successive start after scoring in Lille’s season opener last weekend.

After a quiet start to the half, the home side managed to carve out chances at goal, with Rony Lopes and Kamil Gilk going close after 22 minutes.

Jose Fonte went close to putting Lille ahead on 30 minutes but his close-range effort was palmed away by Monaco shot-stopper Diego Benaglio.

There were a couple close for Lille at the back, but they managed to keep Monaco at bay as they headed into the break level pegging.

Monaco were awarded a penalty after 69 minutes. Radamel Falcao stepped up to take but had his spot-kick saved by Mike Maignan as the Colombian striker’s frustrating night continued.

Pepe then went close to handing Lille the lead in the 74th minute but the defender’s header was palmed away by Benaglio.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but they were unable to carve out chances as the encounter ended 0-0.
