LaLiga president Tebas: We’ve forced Barcelona to sell their expensive stars

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has warned Barcelona they cannot buy who they want.

Tebas is adamant Barca must adhere to their financial controls in Spain.

He told Kicker: “We must focus much more on economic stability than on pure sporting competitiveness at any cost, otherwise we end up cheating ourselves.

“We are in close agreement with the Bundesliga regarding possible changes to the European rules on financial fair play, for which there are various proposals. Both leagues support the priority of economic sustainability.

La Liga is for global financial control that is based on our system. And it would be nice if we could establish something like that in Europe.”

In particular, Tebas focuses on the example given by Barcelona: “In Spain a lot of people talk about it. To be honest, I would like other clubs in Europe to be like Barça, because they respect the Financial Fair Play rules.

“They can no longer sign players they want. Our financial control system has forced them to sell expensive stars and replace them with cheaper players. FC Barcelona‘s squad costs have been reduced from over 650 to around 520 million euros and will break even.”
