Manchester City have allayed fears over Riyad Mahrez’s ankle injury, by confirming the club’s new signing has been given the all-clear to return to training.

Mahrez was substituted during City’s 3-2 preseason friendly victory over Bayern Munich after picking up the injury. Following the clash, Pep Guardiola had expressed his concern and raised doubts over whether the winger would be fit in time for the Community Shield.

He was later seen wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

However, City have confirmed on Monday that a scan revealed there was “no significant damage” and that he should be available for the Community Shield against Chelsea.

Mahrez signed from Leicester this summer in a club-record £60 million deal. Champions City start the season with traditional curtain raiser against FA Cup winners Chelsea on Aug. 5.

A week later, they kick off their Premier League title defence with a visit to the Emirates to play Arsenal.
