Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti admits turning down offers from Europe’s biggest clubs as a player.
Zanetti first signed for the Nerrazzuri in 1995.
He recalled on Muschio Selvaggio: “I arrived in Italy very young. The bond with them was born from the beginning: I felt part of a family, this is the aspect I appreciated the most. The human side is fundamental for me, I consider the economic aspect secondary: I was looking for a club that had these values, which I fully share.
“Goodbye? Have I received Important offers, from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United…
“It was a time when things at Inter weren’t going well. Leaving would perhaps have been easier, but I couldn’t leave the club in that situation: I wanted to leave an imprint, and being the captain I felt a strong sense of responsibility. That’s why I always decided to stay.”
