Barcelona president Joan Laporta was in Portugal yesterday for talks with agent Jorge Mendes.
Sport says Laporta, along with director of football Mateu Alemany, was in the Portuguese city of Porto on Tuesday to meet Mendes.
Laporta was due to be present at the ‘Desafío Nacex’ event but his agenda was disrupted by this last-minute meeting in Portugal.
In the meeting, Barça and Mendes discussed several names that could be of interest to the Catalan club, such as João Cancelo, Bernardo Silva (both Manchester City), Marco Asensio (Real Madrid) and Ruben Neves (Wolves), as well as other names already at Camp Nou who Mendes represents, such as Ansu Fati, Alejandro Balde, Francisco Trincao and Nico González. The youth team’s star player, Lamine Yamal, was another on the agenda.
Both Barça’s president and director of football discussed the renewal of Balde, the future of Ansu Fati, who has already been offered to several Premier League teams, and the cases of the on-loan Trincao and Nico.
In addition, they tried to get closer to the market in order to find out the intentions of the future players who could help reinforce Xavi Hernandez’s squad. One of the priorities would be Bernardo Silva, who is very much liked by the coach and was of interest in the past window.
Cancelo, unhappy with his situation at Bayern, could be interested in a move as well, while Ruben Neves has already been linked with the club on several occasions.
Finally, Marco Asensio, a Real Madrid player, has not yet renewed his contract with Real Madrid and it seems that he would be willing to listen to Barça.
