Dugarry scoffs at rift claims between Deschamps and Zidane: They’re bonded for life

Former France and Barcelona striker Christophe Dugarry has rejected claims of tension between Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps.

It’s been claimed there is a rift between the pair after Deschamps refused to step down as France coach – with former Real Madrid coach Zidane once expected to succeed him.

But Dugarry, who is close to both men, said: “Whatever one wants to say, there is no animosity between them. They won’t call each other frequently or go on vacation together.

“They are not friends, but they have a mutual respect for their respective careers, their results in clubs or with the squad. Somehow, their years with the Le Bleus bonded them for life. No one can take them away. And if one day, for one reason or another, one needs the other, he can count on him. I remain convinced of it.

“There is nothing concrete likely to support the thesis that they do not like each other. They do not necessarily find themselves on a lot of land, but that does not affect their esteem in any way.”
