Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini was proud of his players in their Supercopa de Espana semifinal defeat to Barcelona.
Betis were eliminated on penalties after drawing 2-2 after extratime.
Pellegrini said, “I am very satisfied with the team’s performance, it was a very complete game, except for the first 25 minutes, in which Barcelona had control of the ball, but without giving us any chance, Bravo did not have to make a stop.
“In the last 15 minutes of the first half we played well, with control, and in the second half we were better, we had the clearest chances during the game. They marked us twice and we were able to come back, draw.
“I think it should go directly to penalties, the extra time is too demanding at this rate. Half of our players had cramps, those of Barça as well. But it is decided that way, they got more right than us.
“I saw two teams with very good football, they controlled the ball at first, but without chances. Then we were superior, they scored a great goal from Ansu Fati. We were behind twice, and for that reason we valued the game more. If we review the 120 minutes, in that aspect against a great team, the balance was more loaded to one side, one should have won. It was tied, which also seems fair to me. And it was decided on penalties.”
