Barcelona president Laporta tells fans: We knew reconstruction process would have ups and downs

Barcelona president Joan Laporta sought to ease fans’ concern after their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

Bayern won 3-0 at the Nou Camp to end Barca’s hopes of reaching the round of 16.

Laporta said, “Unfortunately the miracle that we needed has not happened. We are very grateful to the fans for how they cheered on a day as difficult as this one. We have the best fans in the world.

“It was very difficult to show our faces and the players did it.

“We still have LaLiga, we have other competitions. We knew that this reconstruction process would have ups and downs. We have shown that this team is growing day by day. I thank you for standing up, both to the fans and to the players, like the coach.

“Bayern is a very consolidated team, very powerful. I would say that they are the best or one of the best teams in Europe. For us it was very difficult to play knowing that you are eliminated. Watching the Inter game was torture because you wanted a miracle that hasn’t happened.”
