Manchester United are continuing with their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
The Netherlands international has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou, despite being owed €17m over a wage deferral taken amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, with Barcelona unable to register any of their new signings due to La Liga‘s strict salary rules, the sale of De Jong has become a priority.
The Blaugrana have signed Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde this summer.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United will persist with an offer for the 26-year-old as manager Erik ten Hag views De Jong as ‘the potential fulcrum’ of his team.
De Jong and ten Hag worked together at Ajax for 18 months.
United have also looked at signing Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is entering the last year of his contract.
However, ten Hag is uncertain if Tielemans can provide the same impact as De Jong on his midfield group.
