Brighton wing-back Marc Cucurella is delighted with his first season in England.
Cucurella, formerly of Barcelona, moved to Brighton from Getafe last summer.
He told the Athletic: “When I arrived it was hard for me, at first. I didn’t speak English, only three or four words. I wasn’t happy because I felt I couldn’t be myself. Now I understand a lot of things, and when I was with Rob (Robert Sánchez) and Alexis (Mac Allister), I was more relaxed. That helped me a lot in my first few months.
“I am very happy to be here. I have learned many things and I am adapting very well. All the stadiums have an incredible atmosphere and the ‘fans’ experience it much more. It is surely the best league in the world.”
On Barca, Cucurella continued: “It’s one of the best clubs in the world. When I was there, they had (Leo) Messi, Neymar and (Lus) Suárez. The philosophy is the same for all teams: play good football, the same movements. When you train with such good players, you end up learning many things.
“It’s easy to stay in Barcelona with friends and family, but it’s also good to leave your city and stay alone somewhere else, adding new experiences.”
