Overmars ends Prem rumours with new Ajax deal

Marc Overmars has signed a new deal with Ajax as sporting director.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona star Overmars, 48, has flourished in his role with the Eredivisie side since 2012, helping develop and sell on the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech during his tenure.

As a result, reports have linked Overmars with similar positions with the Gunners and Barca, as well as Newcastle – with the Magpies desperate for a football director following their £305million takeover.

However, Overmars has dealt a blow to those admiring clubs by signing a contract extension that will see him stay at Ajax until 2026, with his current deal previously set to expire in 2024.

He said, “I still feel very excited by my work and get a lot of satisfaction out of it.

“The cooperation with my fellow board members is very good, as well as with the people at the Toekomst (the Ajax sports complex) with whom I work together in the fields of scouting, youth, transfers, and the like.

“I have a feeling that my work at Ajax is not done yet, so I would like to continue here.”
