Barcelona to play a year away from Nou Camp

Barcelona are set to spend a year playing away from the Nou Camp as part of the Espai Barca project.

Marca reports Barcelona on Wednesday presented plans which, if ratified by members, will see a huge redevelopment of the Camp Nou and surrounding area which will take four years to complete and mean the team spends a season playing away from their traditional home.

The Espai Barca project also includes selling the naming rights to the stadium and Barcelona have revealed that they are in discussions with various potential partners over deals that range between 10 and 20 years in length.

The modernisation of the Camp Nou is predicted to be finished in 2025, while there are no set dates for the other facilities, which will include offices, a hotel, a multi-sports pavilion and training centre. In the first year of the works, the Barcelona first team would continue to play at the stadium, albeit with a partial closure, then in the second they would need to play elsewhere, before returning in the third and fourth years, again, with some sections closed.
