Barcelona president Joan Laporta made an attempt for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola over the summer, it has been revealed.
Laporta is now seeking a new coaching department after sacking Ronald Koeman.
The Barca president wanted to replace Koeman at the end of last season and tried to bring back Guardiola, reports El Pais, only to be knocked back.
Julian Nagelsmann, before he left RB Leipzig for Bayern Munich, and Spain coach Luis Enrique were also approached.
Al Sadd coach Xavi is now favourite to take the Barca post with talks underway.
