Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has shrugged off reports of Lionel Messi being tabled a pre-contract offer by PSG.
Ahead of Thursday’s clash with Granada, Koeman was asked about the reports coming out of Brazil that Messi has been offered a two-year contract by Paris Saint-Germain, but he didn’t want to be drawn into discussing the rumour.
“I’m not interested in what has come out [in the press] because I don’t know if it’s true and because I hope he stays with us,” he stated.
“I’ve said several times that he [surely] has to finish [his career] here, but it’s a decision he has to make.”
Barcelona did not sign an out-and-out No.9 last summer after the departure of Luis Suarez and, despite Koeman’s complaints in the early part of the season about not having a striker, he recognised the improvement of his team’s attacking output.
“Of course we are working on next season, like any coach and any club,” he said.
“We have to remember that, for example, [Ansu] Fati has been out for five months. [In the last few months] we have created more goalscoring opportunities, we have scored more [goals]… The team has done a great job offensively.”
