The father of Barcelona captain Lionel Messi will fly to Spain on Monday.
Local journalist Maximiliano Grillo has confirmed the travel plans of Jorge Messi, who is set to immediately enter talks with new president Joan Laporta about his son’s future.
Messi’s deal expires in June and Laporta made it a key plank of his campaign to secure the Argentine to a new agreement.
Grillo revealed: “Jorge Messi has planned to travel to Barcelona next Monday.
“What is said here in Argentina is that the gesture that Messi has gone to vote is an invitation to renewal.”
After a difficult first-half of the season, Messi and Barcelona are now a prospect to win the LaLiga and Copa del Rey Double.
