Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman admits he’d like Manchester City defender Eric Garcia to arrive before Monday’s deaadline.
Koeman also noted during Saturday’s pre-match press conference that Ramon Planes, Barcelona‘s technical director, is working on improving the squad, while the Dutchman has recommended additions, such as Eric Garcia, who will become a free agent on June 30.
“It’s always important to have someone at the club working to improve our squad, if not in January for next year,” Koeman said.
“It doesn’t bother me because it’s a job the club has to do. The players don’t have to be bothered by these issues, because we talk to them every day, they take part in the games… These things happen at any club in the world.”
This latter part of Koeman’s response are in relation to a report that highlighted the need for Eric Garcia to arrive now, given Samuel Umtiti‘s injury history and Oscar Mingueza’s perceived struggles in big games.
“A Barcelona player has to be prepared for all things,” the Dutchman explained.
“Umtiti has been out with an injury, he has recovered well and we are counting on him.
“And Mingueza has played a lot. He’s played at centre-back, at full-back… we’ll see what happens in the future, but everyone has to prove their quality and, besides, we don’t know what will happen in the future.”
It was notable how the Barcelona boss was becoming a little disgruntled by all of the questions relating to the transfer window, and particularly Eric Garcia, yet he is not too confident that the 20-year-old will join in the coming days.
“We know that he will surely come next season,” Koeman stated.
“If it’s not possible for him to arrive now, we’ll accept it and move on.”
