Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set to secure Spanish citizenship.
Sport says Barcelona have decided that Araujo will be the first team’s fourth-choice central defender next season, despite the fact he could also continue with the B team.
The Uruguayan defender is the sporting department’s bet for the role and the club will even begin the process to obtain Spanish citizenship in August, once he’s completed three years in the country.
The fact he’s currently a non-EU player is a problem when it comes to promoting him to the first team, as only three non-EU players are allowed.
If Barça sign Lautaro Martinez and Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo don’t leave, the three positions will already be filled.
