Chelsea whizkid Gilmour names Barcelona legend as biggest inspiration

Chelsea youngster Barry Gilmour has named former Barcelona ace Andres Iniesta as his biggest inspiration.

The teenager burst onto the scene with an assured FA Cup display against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge recently.

He was the star of the show in central midfield, showing remarkable calmness and technique for an 18-year-old.

Gilmour has now been called up to the Scotland under-21 side, while there are calls to get him a senior call up as well.

Speaking to BBC Sport about his footballing inspiration, he replied: “It was always [Andres] Iniesta.

“I just loved the way he played, how he got the ball, passing the ball.”

When asked to describe his own game, he said: “I like to get on the ball, drop deep a lot and create play.

“I’ve always been told to work hard and everything else will fall in place.”
