The ESPN FC crew explain why Barcelona’s La Liga title triumph is especially significant, given their ‘roller coaster of a season’ so far.

Jasper Cillessen wants a peaceful resolution to his Barcelona future this summer.

The Dutch goalkeeper joined Barca from Ajax in 2016 as a replacement for Claudio Bravo but has largely been a back-up to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

In total, he’s made just 20 first team appearances, with 17 of those games coming in the Copa del Rey, which the Catalan side have won in each of Cillessen’s two seasons.

Cillessen, 29, has remained professional throughout his time at Camp Nou and turned down the chance to leave last summer but has hinted he would be more open to a move this year.

“I love this club, but I am a professional and I want to play more than 10 games every season — it’s that simple,” he told Ziggo Sport.

Barca remain happy with Cillessen’s work ethic and performances since he signed and are not planning on selling him at the end of the season.

However, considering ter Stegen’s form this season, the situation is unlikely to change and Cillessen may have to look elsewhere for regular football as he looks to cement his place in Ronald Koeman’s Netherlandssquad.

He says the club already know his feelings but added that he will not go to war with them to push through a move, with a number of European teams keen on the stopper.

“The management already know [I want to play more], but I also read that they don’t want me to leave and they’re happy with my work,” he said.

“I’m not the type of player to go to war with a club. I’ve been here, in Barcelona, for two years and, for now, I’m going to continue.”
