Ezenwa: Super Eagles goalkeeper set for return to Heartland

The Naze Millionaires are beginning to get quality additions into their team ahead of the new NPFL season

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa is set for a return to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Heartland eight years after leaving the team.

Ezenwa was with the Naze Millionaires for three years after joining them from Ocean Boys in 2008.

Since leaving Heartland in 2011, Ezenwa has had successful stints with a handful of other NPFL teams including; Sunshine Stars and Enyimba before lately pitching tent with Katsina United where he was all through last season.

Though the move to Heartland is yet to be officially completed, a top source at the Owerri-based club hinted at a possible unveiling of Ezenwa on Wednesday.

“Let me say the deal is 95% completed if all goes according to plan, Heartland will officially unveil Ezenwa on Wednesday or better still before the week runs out,” the club source told Goal.

“Heartland mean business this coming season, we are hoping to get a few more big signings before the transfer window closes.”

Despite failing to get a move abroad, Ezenwa has consistently been a part of the Nigeria national team set-up; making it to the last Fifa World Cup in Russia and also the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where he was in action in the final group game against Madagascar.

Earlier in August, Heartland announced Fidelis Ilechukwu as their new coach after handing the former MFM manager a three-year contract.
