The Red Devils tactician is most in danger of losing his position, according to the bookies
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the favourite to be the first Premier League manager sacked as the start of the league campaign draws closer.
The Norwegian is $5 favourite in Sportsbet’s Sack Race market with punters expecting the Red Devils to be brutal with their manager if they have a poor start to the season.
David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho were all ruthlessly dispatched by United’s chief executive Ed Woodward and Solskjaer could be quickly cut if things don’t work out.
Solskjaer won his first eight games as United manager, after taking over from Mourinho in December last year, but only clinched victory in two of his last 12 matches – with the club crashing to finish in sixth position.
United have a tough start to the Premier League season as they welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford before travelling to Wolves the week after – who knocked the Red Devils out of the FA Cup and didn’t lose any of their three encounters last campaign.
Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce ($5.50) is next on the chopping block after taking over the Tyneside club last month.
The Magpies clawed their way to 13th position under Rafa Benitez in 2018-19, but after the Spaniard’s departure, punters aren’t optimistic that Bruce is the right man to continue the job.
New signings Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin look to provide an exciting edge to Newcastle’s attack but the loss of Ayoze Perez, who contributed 12 goals last season, is expected to hurt.
Bruce’s last spell in the Premier League with Hull City in 2015 ended in relegation and there is a feeling that his top-flight struggles will continue.
Crystal Palace is also a team tipped to be up against it this season and their manager Roy Hodgson ($7) is among the favourites to face the axe.
After the sale of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United, and the possible departure of Wilfried Zaha, Palace haven’t added much quality to their team – with only Jordan Ayew, who was on loan at Selhurst Park last season, joining permanently.
Brighton‘s new manager Graham Potter ($9) is expected to have a tough initiation into the division with the Seagulls only just avoiding relegation last campaign.
New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard ($17) could struggle to have a positive impact because of the Blues’ transfer ban, but might get time if the team doesn’t perform early.
On the other end of the scale, coach heavyweights Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are both $101 outsiders to get the chop.
