Valverde happy with Barcelona youngsters in Chelsea defeat

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde was happy with his young players in defeat to Chelsea in Tokyo.

Valverde used the game against the Blues to give playing time to some of the academy players ahead of the 2019/20 season.

“It was an intense encounter at times and we started both halves very well, but then we suffered from fatigue,” he said.

“It was a good test to see how the young and the new players develop.

“There were some changes, like that of Oriol Busquets or Guillem.

“Then there is Riqui Puig, who is very lively, who has good moves and who can always unbalance the opposition.

“We want him to take a step further to create more danger, but he is a player who is always there.

“I have seen [Alex] Collado playing better and Carles Perez can always finish a play.”
