Rhys and Ryan Williams are poised to become the sixth pair of Socceroos brothers that have donned the green and gold with Ryan eyeing his debut against Korea Republic.
The younger Williams brother has had a strong season in the Championship with Rotherham where he made 39 league appearances scoring one goal and adding two assists.
At 25, Ryan has previously played for Australia‘s U20 and U23’s but is yet to to play for the Socceroos.
Older brother Rhys is no stranger to the green and gold with 14 appearances to his name but the 30-year-old’s last appearance was all the way back in 2013 thanks to a poor run of injuries.
“It’s good to be back here,” Rhys said.
“It’s good to be feeling good again and playing consistently for the last two to three years.
“I feel I’ve got a lot to give now after missing so much football through my youth. It’s been a while but I’m delighted to be here again.”
Rhys’ return to the national team is extra special considering he’s joined by his younger brother.
The two have never played professionally on the same side with Rhys relishing the chance to see his sibling up close.
“I’ve never been this close to him during football,” he said.
“To watch him train and hopefully make his debut as well, it’s a great opportunity for him.
“If he does makes his debut it would be a proud moment for me and my family.
“He made his senior professional debut against me, so it would be nice to see his international debut as well.”
Australia will face off against a near full-strength South Korean side in Busan on June 7 – the Socceroos first game since January.
