Barcelona coach Xavi says Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi are the “future of football”.
Both teens are back after being part of the Spain squad this past week.
On Yamal, Xavi said, “I see him very calm. He is digesting very well everything that is happening to him despite his age. He is very aware of his situation. I see him with more humility than ever. He is showing us that he is a different and differential footballer, who will mark an era at Barça. He is very special as demonstrated with the national team.
“We work the same as with the rest of the players on the staff, with specific work and physical strength. He is a teenager. On a mental level I see him as a happy, fun, joking boy … he carries well what he is experiencing. The team and the group have accepted him very well, we’re helping him and he is helping us. I see him happy, it’s all positive.”
When asked what is the next step for Lamine and Cubarsí, Xavi replied: “Let them continue to their level. Barça is the highest echelon in the world of elite football, a big team, and the Spanish team is one of the best. They have it all, we are in front of two footballers who can mark an era in the club and in world football.”
