Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists the European Super League can launch next season.
A number of Premier League clubs and teams such as Paris Saint Germain, Juventus, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid and Inter have distanced themselves from the project, but despite this, clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are still proponents of the project.
And according to the latter’s president, the European Super League could already become a reality next season.
“The Super League can start next season. Otherwise it will be in 2025-26, and if not, I will reconsider the whole thing,” Laporta said on RAC1.
He also said that the distance taken by the English clubs does not mean much to him, and he opens up that the league can easily take shape with, for example, 16 teams.
“I don’t care if the English teams come. They already have a Super League in the form of the Premier League.
“The European Cup started in 1955 with very few clubs and later became the biggest competition in Europe.”
