Barcelona coach Xavi: Here you feel you’re not worthy; that you’re not valued

Barcelona coach Xavi has taken fresh aim at the press today after announcing his resignation last weekend.

Ahead of facing Osasuna, Xavi was asked about his decision to leave at the end of the season.

He said: “Here they make you feel that you are not worth it, I made the decision at the beginning of the season.

“It’s like that, so I’m sorry. I try to express what I feel, they make you feel that you are not worthy daily. We talked to Pep and he told me. With Ernesto too, I saw Luis Enrique suffer. I think we have to reflect.

“We have a problem with the requirement with this charge. It is not enjoyed, it is not quality of life, you risk your life at all times. It’s cruel, it’s like that, I feel this way.

“I think the problem is mental and soccer. We have to attack and defend better. The game makes the mood go down and up. We have to order, go back to what worked last year. We are not at the level, we have to be self-critical.

“So my announcement. The decision had been made for a long time. It is one of the most difficult moments of the club. I had already decided this, that I was leaving as a coach.”

Questioned about his renewal, agreed at the end of September, he explained: “The renewal had been done for a long time, but the feeling I had that I should leave was at the beginning of the season.

“We have endured everything, the most difficult moments in the history of the club. I think it is not being valued properly and I prefer not to continue.”
