Osasuna players and staff blasted ref Alejandro Muniz Ruiz after their Spanish Super Cup semifinal defeat to Barcelona.
Osasuna lost 2-0 in Riyadh with Osasuna furious over the manner of Robert Lewandowski‘s opening goal.
Captain David Garcia stated afterwards: “We’ve all seen it. The number of fouls that are called like this and in the first half they have all been called in favour of Barça. It is very obvious, it is clearly missing for me. Whenever these types of fouls happen, they go for the same ones.
“I don’t want to be populist, but I think it was evident today.”
The captain insisted his team deserved more: “We had a very good first half in which we conceded practically no chances. The ones we have had have been two very clear ones. In the global calculation we have deserved more, but it could not have been.
“It bothers me for the Reds who have come here, for those who have not been able to come and for the team, because we are a great group, a great family and we have competed together.”
Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera, with Radio MARCA, also showed his anger: “The Super Cup is made to be played Madrid and Barça. If they give us the money they gave us for playing at El Sadar, I would be delighted. We played a great game, but these teams kill you with little.”
And the general director of Osasuna, Fran Canal, also could not hide his fury: “It is clear that the first goal is preceded by a foul if we take into account the level of fouls in the first half in favour of Barcelona.
“There is a more outrageous issue, which is that in the first round of the League the match was decided by a slight contact like this and a penalty was awarded and Catena was sent off. If the budget is already multiplied by five, if the arbitration is favourable to the other team, it is impossible.”
