Sergio Ramos put through his own net as Sevilla lost 1-0 at Barcelona on Friday night.
The former Real Madrid captain turned Lamine Yamal‘s cross into Sevilla‘s goal to gift Barca the three points.
Ramos, who returned to Spain and Sevilla this summer, was playing a record 34th La Liga match against Barca.
Barca coach Xavi later said: “We played very well in the game. We understood what the game required. We attacked well on the flanks, finding superiority. It was one of the best games of the season against a Sevilla that will be on top.
“The victory was deserved and should have come sooner.”
Xavi also highlighted Ilkay Gündogan’s performance: “We believed that we could have superiority in the centre and Gündogan is one of the players who best reads these situations.
“The pity has been the lack of finishing and effectiveness. We have to “have more courage and desire to score goals. It is an important victory that gives us provisional leadership.”
On the winner, Xavi added: “Lamine was fresh, I thought he could make a difference and that’s how it happened. The far post cross has arrived, which is something we always tell him and that we worked in training and it has helped us get the three points.”
