Joao Felix admits he’s surprised himself with how quickly he has adjusted at Barcelona.
The Atletico Madrid loanee has scored at LaLiga and Champions League level this week.
Felix said: “Let’s see, not that good, I honestly didn’t expect it. I believed, and still believe, that this is the ideal place for me but the truth is that things are going very, very well and I didn’t expect it to go so well. Let it continue like this and let it be like this until the end.
“Yes, the truth is, I gave up a significant amount of money from my salary. But well, I needed to change, I needed to go to a place where I could practice my football and as I said, I always believed that this would be the ideal place. Things are going well and I had to make that effort to have joy playing again.”
On falling out with Atletico coach Diego Simeone, Felix continued: “That is clear to everyone, football is like that, whoever is bad has to change places. I have done it before for Chelsea and I have done it now for Barcelona because I was not doing well there, I did not adapt to the ideas of the club and the coach, but I have always tried to do the best I could and I have had very good times there too.”
On Barca coach Xavi, he also said: “He has told me from the first day that he plays to enjoy, to play with joy and put my football in there. Of course he asks me for tactical questions but above all that I enjoy myself, that I have fun, and that’s what I’m trying to do.”
On staying, Felix also said: “Well, for me it depends on how the season ends. Afterwards, Barcelona is the one who has to negotiate with Atleti and that depends after Atleti, if they want to make things easier or not. But those are business things, values, which I don’t get involved in. I do my job on the field, I try to do my best so that they want to sign me in the end and that thing about values, whether I go or not go or for how much, does not suit me.”
