Isidre Gil was key to Barcelona signing Spanish superkid Lamine Yamal.
Gil is a long-time Barca scout and took action when spotting the junior Yamal playing for La Torreta FC.
Officials at La Torreta had informed Gil of rival interest from Espanyol – which had already made an offer.
This came after successful trials at Espanyol, which had Gil taking charge of the situation.
Rather than offer Yamal similar trials, Gil fielded Yamal in a 7-a-side game for Barca and saw him score three goals in 20 minutes. An offer was made to La Roca del Vallés on the spot.
A club source told AS: “Barça was very clear about it, they came to see us and told us that they wanted the boy, he left in exchange for the loan of a kid from their academy and that Barça would participate in our youth tournament.”
Yamal became Spain’s youngest debutant and goalscorer last week as the 16 year-old featured in the 7-1 Euro qualifying win in Georgia.
