Barcelona financial chief Romeu: Players can be replaced; signing Messi must be analysed

Barcelona financial chief Eduard Romeu says they will be active this summer.

However, Romeu also states Barca do not have re-signing Leo Messi from PSG as part of their “feasability plan”.

He explained on Cadena SER: “If there are departures, it is possible that there will be arrivals. Whoever it is. With each departure, the wage bill adapts and allows the gap that is released to be filled.

“When we arrived there were many fires, including Messi’s. We couldn’t make certain decisions that could compromise the future of the club.”

Looking back, he recalled the Negreira case: “The fact that Negreira came out made us give a lot of explanations. It is a matter of reputations. It has hurt economic interests a lot, especially for the moment. Issues such as the Espai Barça or Gavi’s registration have been conditioned, although they are not directly related.

“The club was sold and now we are repurchasing it. Barça had gone bankrupt. When Bartomeu left, they left us €1,350 million in debt that did not go through any assembly.”

Romeu added: “Messi does not enter our feasibility plan. Only players with a current contract and renewals that we want to register. The variations will be analysed individually, whoever it is.”
