Maxi invites Messi to Newell’s Old Boys farewell

Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez has invited Lionel Messi to his farewell match with Newell’s Old Boys.

Max has announced his retirement and will have a game held by Newell’s in his honour.

“This is the best ground there is for me. Maybe I don’t like to be the centre of the show, but we have to have a nice party for the fans, for the national team,” he said.

“Let’s hope it will be an unforgettable day. I had the chance to do it somewhere else, but I have to do it at home with the two shirts that I love: Newell’s and the Argentine national team.

“Messi is invited, that’s for sure. We want him to be here, but he will decide when the match approaches. When the ‘The Best awards’ took place, I told Messi a bit about it, but I prefer to be cautious with all the intimate talks.

“Leo, as well as everyone else we can imagine, will try to be here.”
