RFEF reject Elche case against Barcelona over Gavi selection

The Spanish Soccer Federation’s (RFEF) Competition Committee has dismissed Elche‘s complaint against Barcelona after last month’s defeat.

Elche had claimed Gavi was ineligible due to his deregistration as a first team player by LaLiga over Barca’s financial issues.

But the Committee confirmed that on 4 April the RFEF’s Licensing Area “stated that the player has been registered with a youth licence with Barcelona‘s Divisón de Honor team [the top level of the Spanish league system for youth players] since 2 October 2020″.

It also stated “at no time, therefore, was the player’s licence cancelled, and it cannot be understood that article 141.5 of the General Federation Regulations, referred to in the third legal basis of this resolution, was violated. The player, in short, met all the conditions required in article 248.1 of this same General Regulations, which lists the general requirements that soccer players must meet to play. In particular, it has been proven (…) that the player was duly registered and in possession of a license obtained during the periods established by the Regulations”.

Elche can appeal to the Appeals Committee within the next ten days.
