Minguella doubles down on Barcelona kid Gavi criticism: He’s not Romario or Maradona

Celebrated agent Josep Maria Minguella has expanded on his criticism of Barcelona youngster Gavi this week.

Minguella, who brought both Diego Maradona and Leo Messi to Barca, says he doesn’t rate Gavi as a ‘Barcelona player’.

He told Onze: “Almost everyone agrees with what I said. Gavi is a player who comes to the first team under very difficult circumstances, and with his struggle and the mediocrity in midfield he makes a place for himself in the team.

“I started in football with Kubala and I continued with a series of players like Maradona, Romario, Stoichkov… and this is the level I want for Barça. Gavi is very honest and very dedicated, but he is not at Barça’s level.”

His words about the Barça youngster did not stop there. Minguella recalled that he had barely scored despite playing in an attacking team like Barça and compared him to Fede Valverde.

“He is the third player who has played the most and has only scored two goals… in an offensive team. It is proof that he has deficiencies. If you only dedicate yourself to breaking the opponent’s football, you don’t do all the work. I don’t want to compare, but (Fede) Valverde, the one who punches, always reaches the area and scores goals.

“In my opinion, I would still take Gavi to an English team, but in a team where the midfielders have to score goals…”
